MedFacts is an opportunity for you to take an active role in your care and the care of your love ones. When chronic or serious conditions are present, you are the common denominator for every medical professional. The information below provides guidelines for you to be an advocate and equips you with information that will assist those you care for daily. More importantly, it offers you comprehensive information to assist in your treatment.

Medication Interaction
Tell your doctor/pharmacist about all your medicines including:

  • Prescription Medicines
  • Non-prescription Medicines
  • Vitamins
  • Herbal Supplements

Medications can interact with each other and cause unexpected side effects. You may be instructed to avoid taking certain medications while you are being treated for your symptoms.

Your Medical History
Know your medical history and be prepared to tell your doctor about any diseases or chronic conditions that exist in your family. Your history should include information from your parents and grandparents generation. Sibling medical history is also pertinent to treating you effectively.

Medication Fundamentals
There are fundamentals associated with every medication that you should follow:

  • Know the proper dosage and frequency schedule of your medication.
  • Know how to read the written prescription from your doctor and check again with the pharmacist.
  • Know how to store and dispose of your medication.
  • Read the Medication Guide for your medication.
  • Ask questions of the doctor/pharmacist every time you refill your medication. There may be new information on your medication.
  • Make sure you have the proper syringe/dropper to administer medication.
  • Know your medication preparation period so that you can receive your refills in a timely manner. A compound medication may require 1-2 days for a refill. Also, a pharmacy may not have your medication in stock and it may take a few days to order.
